18th International Conference
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
The 18th International Scientific Conference “Transport Systems Telematics” TST’18
is the next meeting of scientists and engineers involved in the intelligent transport
systems issues. The TST conference is organised every year and the first meeting
took place in 2001. The Polish Association of Transport Telematics is the sole orga-
niser of this year edition, like of previous three.
Intelligent Transport Systems are innovative technological and organisational
solutions in transport. An efficient transport management is a contemporary great
task, aimed at retarding negative effects of transport.
prof. dr hab. inż. The conference is an international forum for exchange of scientific and techni-
Jerzy Mikulski cal information and of engineering experience in the field of transport telematics.
The telematics is situated at the contact between automatic control, information
science, and telecommunication and the special importance of this discipline re-
sults from increasingly broad application of computer systems and from greater
and greater functionality in supporting and monitoring all modes of transport.
The innovation in transport management, primarily in view of improvement to the
transport infrastructure functioning and its safety, but also of environmental pro-
tection, is one of most important challenges in European countries.
An important task of this forum consists in the integration of scientific circles
with representatives of transport, as well as with the producers of equipment and
of intelligent transport systems software. The conference issues comprise both the
theory and the practice of telematic systems application in transport processes,
which implementation means an increased safety, improved reliability parame-
ters, or reduced losses caused by the failure states.
I hope that this TST’18 Conference will be useful both in the field of scienti-
fic-technical cooperation between scientific centres and practitioners in order to
resolve transport systems issues, but also to integrate those circles. Krakow and
the Salt Mine in Wieliczka were selected as the venue of this year conference. The
conference is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Infrastructure, of the
Marshall Małopolska Voivodeship, and also of the Transport Committee of the Po-
lish Academy of Sciences, and in partnership with the City of Krakow.
Finally, on behalf of the conference organisers I would like to thank everybo-
dy, who have contributed to its preparation. In particular I would like to thank the
Authors of regular presentations and posters for their development as well as for
papers preparation, and the Members of the Scientific Committee for their involve-
ment in the preparation of the meeting. I appreciate the reviewers efforts, aimed at
ensuring a high scientific level of the Conference. I am convinced that the outcome
of this involvement will be a significant contribution to the dynamically develo-
ping transport telematics in our country.
Professor Jerzy Mikulski
